Many of you know about the situation with my father from posts at PD. If anyone wonders why I haven't been around for the last couple of days, here is my final update.
My mother called me at about 4pm on the 24th, saying the hospital had called and said Dad was having trouble breathing. She called me, and we both left for the hospital. We arrived to find him breathing very labored, and obviously in pain. After some pain meds, his breathing got better, but his other test results for liver and kidney function were not good. Plus he had developed blood clots up and down his left arm. If that weren't enough, there was also a rash that developed on his body near the surgery site. We sat with Dad all night, only leaving when my Mother's doctor (mom has pnuemonia right now) checked her and suggested that she go home and get some sleep. We left the hospital around 8:15 am this morning, since we'd both been unable to sleep and my sister was there.
Dad's breathing had changed again at some point during the night, the nurse came in and said that was not a good breathing pattern, which we both knew. He had hung in til the morning, so we planned to take naps and return to sit with him some more. No sooner had I arrived home, than the phone rang, it was Mom telling me that she'd just talked to Crystal, my sister. Crystal said that Dad's heart just stopped, not long after we left the building. At 9:00am today, he was pronounced dead. He went peacefully, as we made sure he was receiving pain medication to keep him comfortable.
I would like to thank all of you who prayed for us during this time, and ask that you continue to keep us in your thoughts, as we deal with the circumstances life has thrust upon us. I will do my best to check in from time to time if possible, but we have a lot of planning to do, so time online will be rare. God Bless all of you, and thanks again for your prayers.
